Becoming a Rights Respecting School involves children learning about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. You can find out more about these rights at the UNICEF website.
The children will be learning about their rights and about the importance of respecting the rights of others. We believe that by understanding their own rights children learn to appreciate and uphold the rights of others. Children learn that with rights come responsibilities.
In September 2013 all children were involved in developing Class Charters which outline expectations for behaviour in the classroom. You can see some examples at the end of this article.
The Rights Respecting Group will be meeting regularly to plan and make decisions about how we can develop our learning about children’s rights. The Group is currently helping to develop playground and lunchtime Charters for the school. We will keep you up to date in this area of our website.
